The Civil Aviation Authority is tasked with monitoring and overseeing the safety of air
traffic and other aviation operations, as well as airports and air navigation services. In
these matters, the Civil Aviation Authority has an independent power of decision. The
Civil Aviation Authority issues aviation regulations, approves and inspects aviation
equipment, maintains the register of aircraft, grants various licences and certificates,
and oversees the operations of licence and certificate holders.

The Finnish Civil Aviation Authority’s customers include professional and private aviators, aviation companies and organisations operating in Finland.

The Civil Aviation Authority has about 130 employees. Most of them work in expert duties related to flight operations, flight training and licensing, air traffic control services, security, airworthiness or aircraft maintenance.
